White

Before breakfast

Before my quiet time

Before I sat and planned my day out.

After we stood in the doorway waving the boys off to school.

Steve called me on his way to work and said "You have got to go out for a walk.  It is so beautiful out here, it snowed last night and the snow is sticking to all of the trees.  You can't miss this!"

So I did, I bundled Coco up and leashed a very happy wiggly puppy and off we went.

I let Coco take my little Panasonic Lumix and she asked me repeatedly if she could look at them when we got home.

We sat together looking at each one and I noticed that almost every other photo was just like her photo up above, pure white.  The only explanation she could give me was that she thought the snow was pretty.

I had to add a  border around it because there is nothing there to see..just white and I have a memory card full of similar ones! (She asked me to keep all of them.)

After the walk, after breakfast, after phone calls, after lunch and dinner, and putting the kids to bed and everything in between the lines today I am still happy thinking about what she chose to see.

This poem is scribbled on a sheet of paper on my desk and I have been saying it over and over.

Today my dear, friend Mindy, who is serving over in Iraq, posted the same poem on her facebook.  I was so pleased but not at all surprised that someone else was inspired by the same words.

So I pass it along to you because maybe you have not yet discovered this sweet poem.

i found a book at our bookstore sale today and it reminded me of you. i think you may have read it and written about it on here. i'm not good with remembering details but it was a woman's journal from the late 1800's or early 1900's about homesteading and her experiences. when i saw it i thought of you immediately. if its still on my mind tommorrow i'll definately go grab it ;) what a beautiful moment shared together.

I discovered e.e. cummings in college, and have been rather fond of his poetry ever since ... I hadn't seen this one before, so thank you! It is lovely.

I laughed at that first picture - I thought at first something was wrong with my computer screen, because I wasn't seeing any image within the border! Then I looked again at the title ... and then read the post ... and then it made sense.

I would have never guessed that the top picture was of snow...you're right there's nothing to see but whiteness.  So sweet, your experience w/Chloe reminds me of the quote on your header.  It matches the story perfectly.

Glad you got out and enjoyed your walk.  It's been so lovely this week, a very nice first week in March!

LOL! I thought your blog page wasn't downloading so I went off it and tried again...same blank picture. Then I read the commentary and realized it was meant to be that way. It was truly beautiful yesterday morning, wasn't it??!!!!

:) Well, another lesson in NOT just looking at the pictures but to READ what is being said...I kept refreshing your page waiting for the top picture to load!!! :)))) I'm a dork...and a happy one at that. :)

I love the way you inspire and encouarge your children to see for themselves, and to capture what they see in their own way. ;)

You will have to tell Coco that I took some photos last week that looked exactly like hers....all white, they were. You see, we were at the ice castle by the lake and I was trying to take photos of the ice fishermen...and of course I had trouble seeing what I was shooting with my digi cam...
When I got back into the car to check my photos...I realized I had focused on the wrong area of the lake.
Oh well.
This morning was one of those white mornings...everything frosted with the sun shining brightly!
So beautiful.

That quote is going into my quote journal!

Knowing that you would be true to the title of your post, I admit I was still suprised by the blankness and then laughed as I read why it was (or wasn't!) blank!!! This is so special!

i went back and looked for the beautiful book i mentined previously and wasn't able to find it. someone else had snatched up its goodness. but know that you were thought of ;) thank you for sharing your daughter's artistry with us. finding beauty in the most wonderful and simple things. that is why i think i will enjoy teaching elementary so much. there will be numerous challenges i know...but kids have the most amazing way of looking on the earth adn things around us, that is untarnished by so many things that scew the view of an adult...and i always find it refreshing and a good reminder of not getting lost in all the 'things and moments' i see coming upon me...but rather savouring them...and seeing the beauty in each one, challenge or blessing.

love you! have a blessed weekend with all your beautiful people.
