Steph is one of those people that I am so happy to know and call friend, she moved away a while back and came to visit some friends for the week and I was able to get her for two of those days!   I did not feel like myself because of all that was happening in our lives, but noticed as I was prepping Chloes room in anticipation for her arrival that I had no guard up with her, she has always been comfortable to be with in the way she does not judge.  I looked awful I was swinging back and forth with feeling awful, but it was okay that I had nothing much to give. I trust her to see my private home all at its worst.

We talked and sat on the floor and painted and listened to music and ate pumpkin soup and in the end it was just as I hoped it would be.  She is a beautiful strong brave woman.

Quick sisters day, my Sister-in-law Renay could not come, but Martha (in the pink shirt),  Janet,  Juls (in the black),  and I all met at Juls house, and ate waaay too much.

Thursday the air was so cold but it was playing games, because from inside the sun looked so warm, coming in all the windows and making us think of the park.  So I took the kids out and we lasted less than half an hour, it was so cold.  I ended up looking for places in our area that they could go indoors.

Later that same afternoon Jeff went up to his room and stayed up there for over an hour.  It was not like him to be away for so long so I went up to see what was up.  I had moved Chloe's dollhouse into their room to make more room for Steph when she was here.  Jeff decided that the dolls were in his room for long enough and had spent all that time invading her doll house. The teddy bear with his arms up in the air on the second floor cracks me up.

Steve and I a few years ago went to see the group Stomp (a traveling dance/rhythm/percussion stage show where the dancers make use of brooms, barrels, trash can lids--anything they can get their hands on--to make music) and were hoping that we would be able to see them again if they came to our area.  They are really such a cool group.  We were looking up all these YOUTUBE videos to show the kids because it was too hard to explain.

I left the house for a while to visit with my Grandmother and when I came home I found that Steve had made his own version of Stomp for Eti. Eti loved it and gave us all a nice headache.

Chloe seeing it for the first time raced upstairs and came down with a box of plastic food and spent the rest of the afternoon making soup for all of us in the pots.

On Friday Juls watched the kids so we could go on a date.  We hardly ever go out on a date, sitting on the couch and watching Lost or American Idol is a date for us.  But we needed this.  We sat in a little corner of a restaurant and talked for a few hours.  Things are happening and changing so fast in our lives, it was good to be alone and talk it all out.  After dinner we went to see Slumdog Millionaire, it stayed with both of us.  I fell asleep going over the story in my head, and woke up thinking about it.  This movie is the only one that Steve and I both equally wanted to turn around and see again right away.  James (Steve's brother in law) said "Jo will want to move to India after seeing it" So true!  I have always wanted to move to India but this movie stirred up that desire.  The photography was powerful, and the story..everyone wants to be loved and pursued the way Latika was.  And the brothers, there is so much to analyze there, how they took such different paths.  So yeah, it is on my top five all time favorite movies list.   On Sunday Steve bought me the soundtrack.  I keep telling my Mom to go see it with Dad.

so beautiful to have friends who will take you how you are, and just be the source of comfort and love that you need. thinking of you guys and praying for you through this situation. i am so glad that you and steve were able to find some time together...and just talk through much needed things and be able to just show your love for each other in the midst of this turmoil for you. I love the stomp like music that Eti was able to have...that show is phenomenal. i've always wanted to see them live...i've only seen parts of their presentation on tv...but i adore it. love that picture of your little girl hanging out on the rocking horse...beautifully captured.

i heard that both the movie and the soundtrack were amazing of that movie. i'm glad that you were able to experience something that affected you so deeply. i really want to see it.

ooooo....the paints! I want to play, too! I just got my copy of Kelly Rae's book and am itching to create something using the techniques she shared. I did not realize that DJ had a section in the book until I bought it. Even better! Bonus!

Great photos of moments of your life. I thoroughly enjoyed this post...as always.

I laughed so hard at the picture of Jeff's figurines invading Chloe's dollhouse. That looks like the sort of thing my friends and I would have done to their little sisters! I'm so glad you had a great time with Steph; the picture of the two of you looks so vibrant and bubbling over with life! I keep hearing that Slumdog Millionaire is one of the few movies out there worth seeing, maybe I'll get around to it sometime.

The dollhouse invasion is hilarious. Way tooooo funny. I'm not in the least bit surprised that your friends take you just the way you are- all the ups and downs. ;) I'm sure you have a great network of prayer and love around you, and sometimes we're only aware of it when we actually NEED it. :) I hope you draw from it.

I have heard so much about Slumdog Millionaire but haven't seen it....I'll have to check it out. Have a great day!

Your kids are so funny and creative; the invasion of the dollhouse immediately brought a huge smile to my face as I pictured my son doing something similar to his sister's things! Boys are GREAT, aren't they? I love your little Stomp performer, too! Some day I'd love to go to a Stomp performance, but they only go to big cities and we never get to go down to anything special like that. We did get to go to the Art museum for our anniversary last year, so I better not get too whiney here!  The quick sisters lunch reminds me of times when I've met with 3 of my closest friends at one of their houses and the table is always set very pretty with fantastic linens, dishes and even more fantastic food! We do that for birthdays, which is so nice for the photos and the memories!  Well, I've gotta run. I just know that the Lord is holding you together and He will bless you for your faithfulness! Love, Gail   p.s. I love the pictures of the motherland!

Your comment about India reminded me of a blog that I spent awhile reading yesterday. This family recently moved to India short-term to work in an orphanage there. I'm sure you would enjoy their experiences as well - http://www.the4racks.blogspot.com/.

God bless,
Stephanie

really enjoyed the pictures and that "band" set up is really cool! I bet you were only too glad when you were able to hear each other again after all that noise :)

First of all, I think Steph's visit was a gift from God...to get you out of your head for a while, to just sit with a friend in comfort.  How wonderful that was for you.  What were you girls painting?  I like the pic of the 2 of you with all your bright bright clothes.  Jeff invading the doll house was so funny.  My boys were recently given a bag of Star wars figures and they are very much in to Star Wars lately.  I would like Steve's thoughts about the movies and which ones are okay for a 12 and 11 year old to watch.

I like the cool colors in the picture of Chloe.

You have nice pots.  I would not have tolerated the banging for very long, LOL.

Someday I want to hear about WHY you want to move to India.

I'm glad you and Steve had a nice date.....thanks for the movie review!

I loved the dollhouse pictures. Daniel would have done the same thing! We have little itty bitty Christmas tree here and one year (too long ago now!) I found little men perched throughout the tree! Boys might play with girl things, but in a decidedly boy manner!

Love the way your eye sees the world.  We also went to see Slumdog last weekend, and LOVED it.  I love Indian food and Indian people, and I just love seeing the culture come alive on the screen.  Fabulous film--deserved every award it received.  Some parts were just heartwrenching, but necessary for the story to be SO redemptive.  God never wastes pain--He always redeems it.  I think you're supposed to know that today, Jo.

I like that Steph girl too... she's good people:)She actually reminded me that I had a xanga site! ha! I love reading your blog, almost always makes me smile. I was sorry to hear about Steve's job, but am confident that God has something cool for you both. I'll be praying.

I just revisited this post for the movie review, I want to plan a movie date night with Terry, and Slumdog Millionaire looks interesting.

For various reasons, Terry and I rarely get to go on a real "date outing," either (although I am trying to find creative ways to make it happen more often). I thought it was funny that you mentioned watching "American Idol" as a date. Terry and I do the very same thing! LOL
