I am sitting here listening to Muddy Waters, thinking that now is a good time to catch up on the blogs. The kids are in bed, the house is clean, and Steve has to work late.

I gravitate towards vintage books, the artwork, the well worn pages and the stories themselves.  This is our latest find at the library.  The title is The Very Little Girl  by Phyllis Krasilovsky (1953)  all of the artwork is done using these three colors which must have been challenging for the artist but so refreshing at the same time.  I love my quiet mornings with Chloe, reading this book with one arm wrapped around her and one arm holding coffee!

I read this on the local weather website "Today is your day to live!  Please, please, please find some time to get out and enjoy the warmth!" and so I did, I took the kids for a walk around the block.  We looked for faces on inanimate things, I looked for color, bursts of color anywhere because the winter already feels too long and my eyes are hungry.

Chloe has three babies that she named Abby, Gabby, and Daisy Jo, at Christmas she "Adopted" Grace from Ethiopia.  I sewed them each blankets and had Martha embroider the names.  The very best part of all of it is the "Three bedded bunk bed" as Coco calls it.  Steve's Dad is really good at working with wood and I put my request in, it turned out so good!

Below is one of Julie's treasures, she has been baking every single day and the kids and I get most of the rewards!  The frosting is made with cream cheese and a whole lotta' love.

"Come, O Lord, I pray.  Stir us up and call us back;  kindle us and take us to Yourself.  Set us ablaze, and cast your sweetness over us.  Let us love You and run to You."  (Pg 167 Augustine) (I love how most writers from just 100 yrs ago and beyond were Calvinists)

Great pictures Jo!  I also love the vintage "taking care of baby" type books . I have the dearest one that I'll have to show you sometime.  It's a little golden book titled, "When you were a Baby".  My favorite part is when Mommy says, "Uh oh, I think my baby is choking" and calmly pats him on the back to get "the bit of toast out".  Those mothers in the 50's were just SO level headed.  LOL

I smiled at the Gracie doll.  We named a kitten Daisy once, and of course you know we also have an Abby in the family (only we spell it Abbie)..all GOOD names.  I don't know why I'm writing all this.

I'm also totally w/you on the color thing.  We all are color deprived here in the snow North USA.  Find it and snatch it.

Love ya lots, lots and lots.  ~Shan

Aaaah...warmth! We are having the snow once again...and cold temps! Happy for you! Like Shanda says..snatch it up!
I adore the vintage books with illustrations by Eloise Wilkin. I really want to collect as many as I can find. They are so sweet...and reflect the times, home decor, etc..of the time she did them. I am drawn to books with wonderful illustrations. How sad for me to realize that the author has no say in who does them for their books. I have no doubt passed by some good stories because I wasn't drawn to the look of the book.
What a wonderful three bedded bunk bed! How nice that sweet Coco has an aunt who will make her such nice dolly quilts!
Your envie came this week. I am smitten and amazed! A note is forthcoming.
Little Grace is cute. Reminds me of a doll that my sister-in-law had when she was little. She was set on having a brown baby doll. She is now a grandma to two gorgeous brown grandchildren. Perfect!
Wonderful Augustine quote, JO.
Happy Weekend!

When my Bri was just an infant, I re-newed my love affair with our local library.
Each visit I would check out the maxium amount of 40 books and keep them in a large basket at home.
How I loved reading to her every night...that tradition ended when she was about 12,
because I had created a reader that no longer needed pictures and was devouring books on her own
We both have a collection of old, dear books we have saved from garage sales.
