A good day

001web

We had my sister Julie's kids this weekend!  They spent the afternoon on Sunday playing in the playhouse Steve and I made that goes over a card table.  It originally went over a larger card table (that's why it looks so droopy), my Grandma used her serger to help me put the plastic window on. There is a small flap door on the side.  In the picture above Ally is peeking out the window with her dolly and you can see a hint of Coco's doll as well.

I wanted to point out the table to you because it was so so so worth the investment of time and the little money the fabric cost.  It folds away so easy and was ridiculously simple to make.  Sometimes I see the $200  $300 playhouses at Toys R Us and think Coco would like one, but I am convinced that the things we make for them they like more.

Eti called me over that same day to look at the drop of water on a leaf, he really wanted me to get a picture of it and stood there protecting it with his hands around it until I came back with the camera.

Her sweet eyes, I told her to look in the camera and she bumped her nose on the lens.

Every single antique store I have ever been in my first question is "Do you have any used journals?"  My Mom found a stack of them from the 30's for me, back when people had nice romantic handwriting.  Fallen leaf, journal left behind...

Such a good day today, good because it was the first day of snow and school was cancelled, and all the little traditions that go along with that.  The kids running to the windows and then digging out all of their gloves and hats and so on.  Good because we were all so cozy and excited to be a family alone today, eating french toast and sipping hot chocolate and reading books cuddled under blankets.

And the free taco from Taco Bell, anybody else tap into that?

I missed free tacos because once the Sox were out, my boyfriend didn't care anymore (fine with me). I can't believe that you had snow already!

Lovely pictures and lovelier children, as always. Coco is just so darn cute.

when i was growing up we had a house that a lovely woman had made for my brother and i that fit directly over the card table. i'm sure my parents still have it somewhere. we spent hours in there. and making tents and 'houses' out of pillows. its so much better for the imagination it hink to have things like this available to kids.

I love beautiful days like these.  And even if they aren't COMPLETELY beautiful, there is always a least a few moments *like french toast*, that I can look back and and feel so very grateful for.

Your pictures are beautiful. Those blue blue eyes and baby soft white curls, what a neat idea about looking for old journals. . .

I would have loved the free taco...but the nearest Taco bell is 25 miles away - a lot of gas to spend for some free tacos.   I love the playhouse...we usually just make them out of sheets in the house.  We didn't have enough snow to play in (and still don't).  But we did have hot cocoa and soup for lunch.

Wow!  Snow already?  Our leaves have barely started to change!  Cool playhouse!  Did you guys use a tarp?  I totally think my kids would love it.

I totally want that playhouse!! do you have measurements or instructions of any kind?? I have a card table... why didn't I think of that???

Love the pictures! did you take snow pictures yesterday??? I was so mad that my plans (I had 2 important appointments) got ruined for the day, that I didn't take any pictures... I think I need an attitude adjustment.

I missed the free taco because I didn't go out at all!! Feeling a little cooped up now, but I hate to be cold and I don't like to bundle up all my kids to go out!!

My cousins and I used to take all the blankets, pillows, chairs and brooms to make tents for ourselves at my grandparents' camp. We all have so many fond memories ... especially of Grampie helping us with our creations ... I can't imagine trading that for anything store-bought.

I love that Eti saw the beauty in something as simple as a drop of water on a leaf, and protected it until you could capture the moment with the camera. That is so precious!

@parresia - It is so easy, each card table is made slightly different so just measure the top, add 1/4 inch for the seam, and then measure the side, all sides should be the same, but check to make sure and then make the four sides.  For the flap door we just cut it on two sides almost to the top and sewed the seems under.

@Geidlbots -

It is not special material, it was just whatever I could find that was on sale.  I bought a bunch of felt and was going to get all crafty with a little windowbox and felt flowers but this is as far as I got.

I found the plastic in the tablecloth section, I think it would be fine to just sew it on if you do not have a serger.

Blankets work just as well, I like this because it has a window and is more light and airy than fifty blankets they stripped of the beds, I only let them do that when they want to make a "town" and involve other tables and chairs and so on.

Jo,  your photography always helps me gain perspective.  You see the world in such a unique way and capture it beautifully.  I love all the pictures, but I am partial to my little girl's baby blue eyes and sweet curls.  Thanks to you and Steve for all you did in taking care of my kids so that Phil and I could 'escape' for the weekend!  I love you!

Yes, I saw "myself" in the blond curls/ear picture. Your site has some of the most beautiful child and wedding pictures I've ever seen. Always an inspiration. I'm a bit jealous at the life you're able to give your kids. Nature. Garden. Leaves. Snow! Creativity. Aria keeps asking if we'll have a garden someday. I say "yes." It's my hope too. And seasons! My mom sent her some turtleneck shirts, and Aria said, "Do they even have winter in Oman?" It does get cool January/February. And the nice weather is of course perfect for my business, year round beach photos... so I'm thankful. Aria has been doing lots of painting at school, mixing the colors, big circles... (similar to my recent artwork) Anyway, I've got six jobs to process. It's that season again.

All the best,

Anna
