This is one of those movies where I assume every kid grows up watching it and has most of the lines memorized. It's in the fiber of childhood. I had to laugh when I found out that the "Cliffs of Insanity" were in fact the Cliffs of Moher. " tar
The path was so narrow and close to the edge. Although the fence was made out of stone slabs it felt like it would slide down at any given moment. I read about too many people who lost their lives here including a mother with her son. Steve kept saying "You are not afraid of heights what's going on?" But I just had a strong sense of falling. Even looking at these pictures brings it back.
Steve took this picture of me above. Walking up to the cliffs there was a man playing the tin whistle, you could hear it even when the man was out of sight. The whistle mixed with the wind and the waves colliding with the cliffs below, and the birds circling around.. I know I am getting all "August Rush" here, but it was perfect, better than anything that could be recorded.
This photo above is evidence of God's goodness. It rained for 4 months in Ireland this summer, every travel book I read said to expect rain at least a few times a day, and that most sights cannot be viewed properly if it is raining. we had almost a full week of summer sunshine with no rain. Everyone was coming out of their homes and enjoying the late Summer. I met a beautiful couple at a wedding I did this Summer who had gone to Ireland. They said they stood here at the cliffs and could not see anything, there was so much fog and rain. They prayed "Lord you have brought us so far, if it would please you, show us some of Your beautiful creation" and then, right then, the clouds rolled back and they saw these cliffs. I carried that story with me and stood here on our day at the cliffs and seeing the rays of sunshine...it was almost too much. God is so extravagant in His kindness. I asked over and over again on this trip "Show me Your glory" and He did time and again, on the pages of His creation.
We took this shot to show the scale, the cliffs are 700 feet above sea level and below is a large cruise ship passing by.
The little cafe is built right into the side of the hill, similar to a hobbit house.
And there you have it, The Cliffs of Moher, all these posts on Ireland thus far have all been in our first day in Ireland! Steve and I overheard an Australian tourist say in her delicious accent "I just want to sit and absorb it a bit" we used that as our mantra for the rest of the week. Saying it to each other in her accent. get="_new"> |
Absolutely stunning. God's creation will never cease to astound me, and make me praise Him.
I like the phrase that became your mantra. We could use it for life, yes?
