Today

002web3

I spent time under a large weeping willow tree with my son Jeff today

I could tell you about the bike ride through our neighborhood, and how out of shape I am huffing and puffing up the hills.  Or about how we took Julie's kids to the park with us and all five kids rolled down the big hill.  Or I could even tell you about reading in the backyard to the kids.

But really it is the Willow tree that is standing out to me right now.  My childhood memory of playing under a magical Willow meeting up with Jeff's first moment under one.  Discovering the hidden room beneath it's branches.

Jeff said  " I wish I could meet you as a kid I would want to play with you.  Maybe in heaven we will all be the same age."

hmmm, isn't that a nice thought...what great insight for such a young boy. Weeping willows are my absolute favorite tree of all time (it may be because my favorite weather is windy weather and the wind just seems to bring this tree alive, it reminds me of my own hair whipping in the wind)--as a child I lived in a neighborhood that had two weeping willow trees and I was friends with a girl whose front lawn occupied one of them. We used to sit beneath it and watch its branches sway in the wind and talk about what we wanted to be when we grew up and we wondered aloud what Jr. High would be like. Ah, sweet youth!

We used to play under them as children too.  Every time I see one I mention to my husband how it would nice to have one on our property some day.  I've always loved the look of them.  I will never forget the willow trees in Newport RI.  I don't even know if they are called willows but they are similar.  Talk about beautiful.  Sounds like a great day!

Whenever I see a weeping willow tree, I think of you.

Lilacs too.  I think of you and my own childhood when I see lilacs.  Or that bush with the big puffy white flower that turns mauve and dries so nicely...

grrr.  now I've gone and messed up my beautifully worded 'moment' here in this comment.  whatever.  you know what I mean.

love ya!

What a sweet thought.  Weeping willows have a magic all their own.  I recall that from my own childhood.  So do maples with the moss covered ground beneath them--nature's carpet just waiting to be sat upon.

Jeff's such a sweetheart. What a nice thought of all being the same age and able to play together in heaven!

For some reason, I always called weeping willows "goom trees" when I was a little girl. I don't know why, but that name just seemed to fit them. They really were magical, and a little bit creepy--not much, but just enough to send a little shiver down your spine.

I would love to plant willows wherever we buy a house, but Carl says not unless we also have a pond. Apparently their roots will interfere with the water line otherwise. Way to ruin the enchantment with prosaic reality ...

the powerful thing about that is the title....Today. not tomorrow, not yesterday. Today.

My brother David and I used to swing from Weeping Willow trees and I loved it in the fall when the leaves swirled and twirled their way down to the ground.

The sky looks gray in your picture!  Was it about to rain?

Hope today has a magical moment in it for you~

I too have MANY memories that were created under a weeping willow. I told my husband the other day that the very first thing I will plant when we build a house with lots of land is a bunch of willow trees.
