Taking after his Mama

002blog

The library that we go to each week has some really great programs.

In May they taught the kids about the architecture in our town and then took them on a tour to see the buildings.

Each child was given a disposable camera.

At one point I heard some one say "That boy is taking a picture of the sky and of the sidewalk" and I smiled and thought to myself  "I know because that boy is mine!"

They took a few of the best from each child's camera and put it on display for First Friday. Now that First Friday is over  they are moving the photos to a gallery in the local museum!

I tried VERY VERY hard to not tell Jeff anything and let him shoot the way he wanted to.  What I want is for my kids to really fall in love with photography to learn to see in their own way.  The technical quality is not as important to me as having my kids learn to SEE and then keep their eyes open.

The librarian just gave doubles of his photos to me, there were so many to choose from but I am just going to post a few here.

*The next four photos were taken by Jeffers I scanned the photo but did not edit at all.

One of my favorite buildings of the day was this one.  My mind started spinning when I saw the exposed walls and the boundaries of each room.    The tile and paint and wallpaper.  Almost..just almost on the fringes, I could imagine the lives of the people who lived here.

This is not the first time I photographed a building like this. Sometime in the mid nineties I had Steve pull over and explore a building just like this.  I photographed it all in black and white for the very same reason.

Beatiful and amazing!  Your son has an eye.

The building you photographed is really fascinating.  The outline of each room is really a cool thing to see and the old wallpaper...wow!  Can't you just imagine the person who picked out that wallpaper, who carefully hung it and stood back to admire the handiwork, then sat in that room and lived their lives.  Truly fascinating!

its beautiful that your son has picked up an eye for the beauty of photography such as you have. wow..that last one was amazing. i LOVE skies and the colors and contrast in them, and he captured that beautifully. you guys certainly do have such a wonderful eye for this beautiful stuff. it took me FOREVER to find the wallpaper on the walls, but then could see what you were talking about, wondering about what had taken place in those rooms, what those walls had seen....

ohhhh, you should do a post about walls and if they could talk, i'm sure you ahve some incredible shots from all kinds of places that have unique walls...i can just imagine the beauty and mystery in that ;)

loved these last two posts. the pictures of Eti were amazing, and i was especially saying 'awww' when you guys went out to eat and he declared you his 'best friend' what a precious moment. you are lovely my dear.

The photo of the church is beautiful! He's got some talent, that one!
I'm really curious about that one small patch or rose wall paper. It's too small to be a full wall of a room... I wonder where it was. Bathroom, perhaps? That photo of the full side of the wall really got me thinking.

That 2nd picture of Jeff's is pretty darn cool.  Way to go, Jeff!  Also, that building is a gold mine!

I hope today was better.  I told Dave about the ice, and he made a face and told me a story about an old boss' kids.  Evidently, his boss overheard the kids saying, "Let's get the squirt guns and play Jesus and God!"  LOL...boys WILL BE boys.  And we, girls, just have to learn to sigh.

I remember that picture you took in the mid-90's~ you sent me a copy of it and I thought if that the moment I saw the building here!

Jeff is so great, none of your kids will be shy in back of a camera (or in front, for that matter!).  You might be a raising a (or several) professional photographer (s)!

What fun, and what a thrill for Jeff to see some of his photographs actually displayed in a museum! He really does have a good eye, the third and fourth photos are my favorites. The way he captured just the corner of the sun in the third, and the angles in the fourth--very impressive!

I miss you guys--give the kids a hug from Aunt Louise!

I appreciate that he is/was able to shoot what he wanted. I think back to my own childhood and how observant I was of the things around me. The little almost unnoticed things, the crushed soda can, the crack in a pane of glass. I wonder what I might have captured through a camera at that age. The pictures are wonderful, and I applaud you for showing him the way. Children do learn by example, And it appears your kids will benefit from what they see daily.   I’m a little behind in getting around to all my favorite pages, the birthday celebration makes me smile and warms my heart. How lucky to be your sons best friend. Talk about a heart warming.   Be well,   *~matthew~*

I loved Jeff's picture with the prism too.  So cool.  I have really fallen in love with our home town and the wonderful treasures that are there for those who would see them.
